WELCOME TO OUR LABORATORY

We study the molecular mechanisms of action of small organic compounds and use them as tools to understand biochemical processes. We are interested in molecular pharmacology and the mechanistic role of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in inflammation. In particular, we study how endogenous and potentially therapeutic ligands modulate cellular processes, with a focus on drug discovery.

Endocannabinoid Research Gertsch

To study the function of the ECS we are using biologically active small  molecules, e.g. natural product-derived molecular scaffolds, for the development of novel modulators of cellular systems. Such molecules may serve both as tools and potential leads for drug development.

We work on the assay development and in vitro screening related to different membrane transporters within the NCCR TransCure, a transdisciplinary consortium in Switzerland dedicated to target transport mechanisms in order to discover new therapeutic principles.
